About Me
Amber Currie BSc, MSc Clinical Animal Behaviourist
I have been lucky enough to witness first hand the extraordinary power our pets can have on our lives and have made it my mission to help as many people and their pets experience the joys this bond can bring. Growing up in London has given me a unique insight into the challenges pets can face in our urban environment and a view on how we can use these conditions to our pet’s favour.
I have completed my MSc in Clinical Animal Behaviour at one of the leading universities for Animal behaviour in the UK where I was taught using cutting edge scientific approaches to how animals perceive and respond to our environment and the positive based approaches we can use to guide them. I undertook my BSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare which gave me many practical skills in how to care for our pets and ensure good welfare practices. I also have experience working in the shelter environment (WVS Care for Dogs, Chiang Mai, Thailand) as well as working in a UK veterinary practice.
Aside from my work with cats and dogs I was lucky enough to study with world renowned horse whisperer Monty Roberts in California where I was introduced to both the ways in which using positive training methods can undo years of damage to our animals and the powerful effects relationships with animals can have on the healing of PTSD and other mental health conditions. On return to the UK I began volunteering with the Riding for Disabled Association and loved seeing the joy on the children’s faces when they spent time with the horses and was always in awe of how gentle and understanding the horse were around the children.
I have also volunteered as a research assistant collecting and analysing behavioural data of whales and dolphins in the Azores and my Masters thesis explored whether stress impacts on the learning abilities of tigers housed in captivity.
